By making a financial donation to the Institute you will help to secure the resources that will enable our accomplished doctors and researchers to target the musculoskeletal diseases and disorders which affect every 1 in 3 of us.

HOW TO MAKE A DONATION

The Bone and Joint Research Foundation (University of Sydney) is the body charged with raising funds for the Institute. You can make a tax claimable donation to the Foundation by sending a cheque payable to the Bone and Joint Research Foundation or by credit card using this form and mailing it to the Institute. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

BUY NAMING RIGHTS

Apart from direct donation to research, there are other ways in which your financial contribution could be used, such as:

  • donor named laboratories or library
  • supporting a named research fellowship
  • the purchase of an item of equipment

This could be your name, your company's name or perhaps the name of a close relative whom you would like to commemorate.

Full naming rights
The amount sought for full naming rights of our Institute is AU$1.5 million, which is half the amount it will cost to build our facilities in the new Research Centre. Once the new Institute is opened, we would require an annuity of $100,000 to maintain major sponsorship and naming rights in perpetuity. All Institute stationery will carry your Institute name, as will the website, promotional and educational material, such as our annual symposium.

Naming rights for a new laboratory
We have three main laboratories already funded by naming rights within the existing Institute - the Raymond Purves Bone and Joint Research Laboratories, the Murray Maxwell Biomechanics Laboratory and the Sutton Arthritis Research Laboratories.

Other laboratories of the Institute will afford new opportunities for naming rights. Such examples include the Bone research laboratory, the Spinal research laboratory, the Molecular Biology laboratory and the Inflammation research laboratory. You can secure the naming rights over one of these new laboratories for the single payment of $450,000.

Naming rights for a conference room/library
Naming rights are also available for the Conference Room / Library and requires a $150,000 commitment. Alternatively, donations of $5,000 made for the purpose of purchasing books or subscriptions to specialist journals or computer information databases woulbe recognised by a plaque identifying the donor placed at the library entrance.

Supporting named research fellowships, scholarships and travel scholarships
Post-doctoral Fellowships and Scholarships to undertake post-graduate studies at the Institute will be established in the name of the donor. Named Fellowships require an annual donation of $60,000. Named research Scholarships will require a commitment of $25,000 pa for 3 years to enable basic scientists to complete a PhD program. The Royal Australian College of Surgeons has agreed to make available $15,000 for post-graduate training of surgeons provided the Institute can provide a matching amount from a donor. The Scholarship will be conjointly named and will require an annual donation of $15,000 for 2 years.

The purchase of an item of equipment
Specific items of equipment may be purchased from a nominated donation. Some of the equipment urgently needed by the Institute for its research include: MRI instrument, a capillary electrophoresis unit, bacterial culture shaker, polymerase chain reaction machine, microtome, digital imaging and associated computers, etc. Plaques would be attached to the equipment identifying the donor.

If you would like further information or would like to discuss the possibility of naming rights/purchase of equipment within the Institute, please contact Professor P. Sambrook, telephone: 61 (0)2 9926 7281.
